Fast Network Switching between Public and Local 5G Networks -- Aiming to Improve Local 5G Connectivity --

(in English) Various countries are attempting to apply the 5th generation mobile communication system (5G) to private networks, and Local 5G has already been institutionalized in Japan. One of the measures for the spread of Local 5G is to enable the use of both public and Local 5G networks with one smartphone. However, when using a cellular system applied to LTE (Long Term Evolution) or 5G, radio communication is interrupted for a long time due to the network switching between the public and Local 5G networks. The authors have proposed a virtual pre-connection scheme that can solve this problem, while two wireless modems are necessary to be operated at the same time for realizing the proposed scheme. Meanwhile, most of the off-the-shelf smartphones cannot use two wireless modems for communication at the same time. In this paper, we propose a fast network switching technology that can be applied to off-the-shelf smartphones. In addition, we verify the usefulness of the proposed scheme by an experiment using an actual network.
