This paper reports the results of the field trials using a testbed to investigate the effectiveness of inter-operator link aggregation based on Multipath TCP (MPTCP) scheme in a heterogeneous mobile network composed of two subflows with different performances. Because the conventional MPTCP implementation degrades the performance in such a heterogeneous network, the MPTCP implementation in the testbed is improved by the state-of-the-art algorithms in congestion control and path scheduler for practical evaluations. The trial results of throughput and round-trip time in uplink show that a well-chosen combination of the congestion control and path scheduling algorithms achieves an outstanding low latency performance with a practical throughput performance. |
