Understanding the behavior of molecules in the vicinity of biomaterials is essential for investigating the mechanism of functional expression of biomaterials that play a role in water. In particular, the structure of water molecules in the interfacial region is known to have a significant effect on protein adsorption and cell adhesion, but the details remain a mystery. In this paper, we report the results of the analysis of interfacial interactions induced by interfacial water molecules by measuring interfacial forces using atomic force microscopy and the analysis of hydrogen bonding states of water molecules at the interface using surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy. Based on these results, we discuss the role of water molecules at bio-interfaces. |
