FDTD analysis of an InSb sphere array on a dielectric substrate in the THz region

(in English) We investigate a periodic array of an InSb sphere on a substrate at terahertz (THz) frequencies using the three-dimensional FDTD method. First, we evaluate the transmission characteristics at normal incidence, paying attention to the resonance frequency. It is shown that the guided mode and surface plasmon resonances (SPR) occur. Next, we investigate the effect of the background refractive index on the transmission characteristics. It is shown that as the refractive index increases, the resonance frequency shifts to the low frequency side. In particular, the shift is found to be significant at the resonance frequency associated with the SPR, showing the application to a THz sensor. Finally, we evaluate the transmission characteristics at oblique incidence. It is shown that the propagation direction of the coupled field is explained by the phase matching condition and the Poynting vector.
