Proposal and Validation of Packet Layer Quality Estimation Model for Voice Call Applications

(in English) Quality visualization and quality control during service are important to ensure that voice call applications are used with comfortable quality. The purpose of this study is to construct a packet-layer quality evaluation model for voice call applications. Concretely, the proposed method evaluates QoE (Quality of Experience) by estimating packet loss rate and voice section rate, targeting received packets of voice call applications employing silence compression technology. Received packets are affected by silence compression as well as network quality. Therefore, it was shown that the listening quality can be estimated from the received packets by estimating the packet loss rate considering voice section rate. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed packet layer quality estimation model using unknown data. As a result, it was confirmed that the listening quality could be estimated with high accuracy.
