Multiconductor shielded cables are used in vehicles and electronic devices to maintain EMC quality. A method using a chain-parameter matrix has been reported as the analysis method of a multiconductor transmission line for the radiated emission from the cable and the interference from the electromagnetic environment. In this method, the per-unit-length impedance matrix and admittance matrix of the cable is required to determine the elements of the chain-parameter matrix, and, in many cases, these are obtained using an analysis tool that uses the finite element method or the like. However, it is generally difficult to obtain the chain-parameter matrix elements by the analysis because the cable shield and the cable conductors are constructed by bundling thin wires and the dielectric constant and loss tangent of the insulator material is not published in the EMC investigation frequency. In addition, although the chain-parameter matrix elements can be obtained by measurement, it is difficult to measure them with high accuracy because a very short sample is required. In this report, a method of determining the per-unit-length impedance matrix and the admittance matrix is proposed for obtaining the chain-parameter matrix elements. The method uses the line constants of the common-mode transmission line, the line constants of the differential-mode transmission line for one pair, and the analysis result not considering the dielectric materials. As a result of applying this method to a shielded cable with one pair, it was found that the line constants of differential-mode and common-mode transmission lines obtained from the matrix elements were agreed with the measured value. |
