Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We propose a novel joint channel and data estimation (JCDE) scheme for mmWave large multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) systems with short non-orthogonal pilots. A Bayesian JCDE using a Bernoulli-Gaussian (BG) distribution as a prior distribution of beam-domain channels is a well-known strategy for realizing mmWave multi-user detection (MUD) with low-complexity and high-accuracy. However, the mismatch between the BG distribution and the stochastic behavior of the actual mmWave MIMO channels often makes the iterative convergence property of the JCDE algorithm unstable, which degrades the MUD performance significantly. To resolve this issue, we introduce an angle-of-arrival (AoA) estimation mechanism to the channel estimator of the Bayesian JCDE. This makes it possible to improve the channel estimation reliability using the knowledge of antenna steering vectors, and stabilize the convergence behavior of iterative estimation in the early iteration steps. The efficacy of the proposed method over the state-of-the-art is confirmed via computer simulations in terms of normalized square error (NSE) performance and bit error rate (BER) performance.
