Evaluation of radiation resistance of consumer image sensor for the development of high-sensitivity camera for space

(in English) The highly sensitive images in space have very important implications in various aspects such as scientific observations and navigation-guided measurements. So far, cooled CCD has been widely used to suppress the dark current of image sensors for high-sensitivity image acquisition in space, but due to the difficulty of exhausting heat in space, the cooling system becomes large and complicated. Therefore, we considered using an uncooled high-sensitivity CMOS image sensor for space camera, which is a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) widely used on the ground in recent years. However, COTS is adversely affected by radiation. In this paper, we evaluate the radiation resistance of the developed image sensor board by irradiating it with γ-rays and analyze the cause of the failure.
