The Landau-Placzek ( L-P ) ratio can be estimated from the intensity ratio of Brillouin and Rayleigh scatterings. This L-P ratio is related to the specific heat ratio γ of the medium. We experimentally estimated the L-P ratio of aqueous solutions. When measuring the L-P ratio of a liquid, the strong Rayleigh scattering of the liquid cell and optics hinders the measurement. In this study, we attempted to measure the L-P ratio from a liquid without using a cell. The dependence of Brillouin and Rayleigh scattering light intensities on the molar fraction of ethanol solutions was experimentally investigated. The results were in good agreement with the previously reports and showed that the measurement L-P ratio. |
