Theory of Radar Cross-Section Measurement by 3-D Synthetic Aperture Imaging with an Arbitrary Antenna Scanning Surface

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Radar cross-section (RCS) is an important physical parameter in characterizing the scattering of an object or target measured by radar systems. As RCS is defined in the far-field distance of a target, direct RCS measurement of an electrically large object is usually infeasible due to the spatial limitations of the measurement facilities. Therefore, an algorithm called near-field-to-far-field transformation (NFFFT) was proposed to obtain far-field RCS from near-field measurement. In this report, we propose a unified NFFFT approach that can handle an arbitrary antenna scanning surface. The proposed method is validated by a simple numerical simulation.
