[Short Paper] Batteryless Backscatter Transmitter Operating on Two-Dimensional Waveguide

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this presentation, we report on backscatter communication in a two-dimensional data/power transmission environment.
A backscatterer (Bx) receives continuous-wave (CW) microwaves propagating along a two-dimensional communication (2DC) sheet via a surface coupler that couples with the sheet-guided mode.
By switching the impedance terminating the coupler port, the modulated reflected wave is generated in the sheet.
A batteryless Bx can operate on a 2DC sheet by harvesting the power from the received CW microwave.
Since the Bx consumes about 1 mW, when 1 W CW is supplied to the 2DC sheet, the power transmission efficiency required for the Bx is about 0.1%.
The 2DC technology will enable a highly intelligent space in which batteryless sensors are distributed.
