Design of Compact W-Band Cavity in 0.18-μm CMOS Technology

(in English) This study investigates the miniaturization of a Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) type on-chip cavity resonator for W-band. A Quarter-Mode (QM) SIW cavity resonator folded in a silicon substrate is proposed and compared with the Full-Mode SIW cavity resonator.
The proposed structure was implemented in 0.18µm CMOS technology and evaluated. The measurement results showed that the resonant frequency is 96.9 GHz, the return loss is -30.14 dB, and the Q-factor is 193, which agreed well with the simulation results. The effective area without pad of the created structure was 0.0506mm2, which is about 92% less area than that of the Full-Mode cavity resonator.
