Classification of root resorption from dental panoramic X-ray images based on deep metric learning

(in English) Root resorption is one of the tooth diseases. It is caused by the roots of the teeth melting when it was absorbed and accurate diagnostic imaging is required. CT images are required for accurate diagnosis and treatment of root resorption, however since many dental institutions in Japan often do not have CT equipment. So accurate root detection is desired in dental institution. In this paper, we propose a CNN model that uses EfficientNet for deep learning in feature extraction and incorporates center loss and triplet loss as loss functions for metric learning, and a computer for identifying the presence or absence of root resorption from panoramic X-ray images. As a result of constructing an image-assisted diagnostic method and applying it to 150 actual images, AUC=0.71 was obtained.
