Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a technology that supports the Internet of Things (IoT), which is expected to spread to various application in the future. A large number of wireless terminals will be utilized as sensor terminals in WSNs. Longer operation time is highly desirable in these terminals. To solve this problem, wireless powered data transmission using RF energy harvesting (RF-EH), which acquires energy from the radio waves of surrounding wireless terminals, is attracting attention. Considering the attenuation of radio waves, available range of wireless terminals as the energy source for RF-EH should be figured out. In this paper, we consider a system of sensor terminals with RF-EH function, which adopts the Time Switching method to perform data communication and RF-EH intermittently. Energy budget analysis has been conducted according to the distance between the sensor terminal with power threshold of RF-EH and the surrounding wireless terminal as the energy source. |
