This report describes topics on optical access systems presented in OFC2021, one of the world largest optical communication and networking conferences. On this conference, research reports on Digital Signal Processing and AI technologies to meet strict cost and budget requirements on next generation passive optical network (PON) system handling data rates beyond 50Gbit/s/λ per wavelength were discussed. In addition, there were discussions on topics that are continuously being addressed, such as large-capacity PON technologies such as 100 Gbit/s/λ and low-latency bandwidth allocation methods for 5G Mobile Fronthaul accommodation. |
