[Invited Talk] Effects of emotional response on solving ill-posed problems in temporal perception
Makoto Ichikawa, Misa Kobayashi (Chiba Univ.) HIP2021-42
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Our perceptual system cannot obtain information to determine the pace of temporal progression of events or the temporal interval between them. That is, it obtains at each moment zero-dimensional information, which does not contain definable information about one-dimensional characteristics of the pace of progression and the temporal intervals. Therefore, we should regard the process of our time perception as the process of solving ill-posed problems that have no unique correct solution. I will review the strategies that our perceptual system uses to solve this problem and the resulting illusions about time, and explain our recent findings on the effects of emotional responses on the perception of time.
