Visually Fidelitous Dynamic-Range Compression from HDR Images -- Dependency of Individual on Perceived Time by Observing Images Reproduced with Global Tone Mapping Curves --

(in English) Three different Global-tone-mapping (i.e., CD, SN, and DR) were employed for reproducing SDR images for subjective evaluation from HDR images taken in different time periods. Time conditions were four (i.e., early morning, morning, afternoon, late afternoon). Observers were required paired comparison based on subjective time periods when images were taken. Number of observers was twenty-four. Experimental results reveal that there are no observers who are able to evaluate time based on actual shooting time. In other words, they judge the time based on the difference in tone mapping curves (i.e., gradation). Further studies with cluster analysis suggest that (1) gradation-sensitive and insensitive groups are generally separated, but they are in spectrum, (2) there are differences in significant tone-mapping pairs by individual, (3) especially in early-morning and/or morning conditions, there exist two opposite-types of individuals who prefer high- or low- contrast, that is reflected the difference in daily visual life habits.
