Distributed ultra-high-definition video handling system using wide-area SRv6 service function chaining

(in English) We are aiming to establish a video processing platform that automatically configures video workflows as required by freely coordinating transmission, storage, and processing functions distributed in data centers and cloud edges in the cloud for uncompressed 8K ultra-high definition video.
In this paper, we report on the implementation and verification experiments of a prototype extension of service chaining for video processing using SRv6 for application to wide area networks. Specifically, we describe the architecture of a software packet switch that uses DPDK to process video streams in real time at the packet level on the transmission path between the video sources and destination sites. This paper describes the implementation of the 8K UHD video handling functions such as IP reassemble, high-precision delay monitoring between streams, delay control of the streams and video switching, and our development of the SRv6 H.Insert, End, and End (PSP) functions required for service chaining using SRv6. This paper reports on the demonstration experiments at the NICT wide-area video distribution experiment 2021 in February 2021 and at the Kanagawa Institute of Technology booth at Interop Tokyo 2021 in April 2021.
