Dynamic Control of Large Capacity Optical Paths on Fiber Granular Routing Networks

(in English) The steep traffic growth encourages the development of next-generation ultra-large-capacity optical paths and fiber-granular switching that enables the introduction of large port-count optical switches for express routing. Ultra-large-capacity optical paths will occupy broader frequency bandwidth and decrease the number of paths to be accommodated to a fiber. Moreover, fiber-granular routing deteriorates the flexibility in path routing. In this paper, we evaluate the impact of these two trends to dynamically operated future optical networks. Numerical simulations show the impact by the next-generation optical path is substantial as it reduces the statistical multiplexing effect.
