Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar that employs multiple antennas to transmit orthogonal waveforms and multiple antennas to receive radar echoes is a recently proposed short-range sensor concept. It has been shown that MIMO radar can be used to improve short-range sensor system performances. As a large advantage, MIMO radar can employ spatial multiplexing and digital beam forming technologies, which lead to improvement of angular resolution as a result. In this paper, we discus and analyze scheme and construction of the virtual array for MIMO radar as general as possible. The shape of the array surface is assumed to be three-dimensional, and especially in the case of linear array the well-known relation expressions between the element antenna pitch of transmit (Tx) and the receive (Rx) array has been derived. |
