Microparticles dispersed in liquid are widely used as ink, cosmetics and electrode materials. For example, carbon black dispersed in an ionomer solution can be a good candidate to be employed in fuel cell applications. We have developed ultrasound scattering techniques to investigate the structures and dynamics of optically turbid systems including carbon-black particles in ionomer solution. While the structure and dynamics of carbon black suspension have been investigated by ultrasound scattering techniques, the role of ionomer was not clear because of the complicated structure. In this study, electrophoretic dynamics of two kinds of particles having different surface properties in ionomer solution was examined as a model system in order to understand the role of ionomer in particle suspensions. |
