In order to improve the efficiency of analysis and design of 3D optical devices with axisymmetric structure, we investigated an efficient analysis method by the full vector finite element method (FV-FEM) based on the cylindrical coordinate system. While perfect matching layer (PML) was widely and conventionally used to terminate the analysis region, we employ a boundary condition using analytical solutions or propagation operators to terminate on the input/output port. The validity of the analysis of this method is examined in comparison with the conventional method. Then, as a domain decomposition method based on cylindrical coordinate system, we propose a new scattering operator that relates the input and output electromagnetic fields. Using this scattering operator, whole optical structure can be anlayzed by multi-stage connection of the operator. This approach can analyze arbitrary shapes in the cylindrical coordinate system, and has the potential to improve the analysis efficiency of a wide range of axisymmetric devices such as plasmonic waveguides. |
