An EM-field measurement method by using a half wavelength LED dipole antenna was proposed. The LED in the antenna can be lit by the received DC power fed by rectifying RF signals. The LED's brightness depends on the DC power provided, suggesting use as an EM field strength indicator where the half wavelength LED dipole antenna is located. The EM field and wireless power transfer efficiency were simulated to investigate the half wavelength LED dipole antenna's potential. A prototyped measurement system for experiments was constructed. The received power with antenna directed x-direction was measured the largest among x-, y-, and z-directions. The corrected received power for x- and z-directions was compared using the simulated Poynting vector components. The results showed good agreement ensuring the effectiveness of using a half wavelength LED dipole antenna as a signal strength indicator to measure the EM field. |
