A Study on Phase-Noise-Aware LLR Calculation for Millimeter-wave MIMO Systems with High-Order Modulation

(in English) This paper proposes a low-complexity demodulation method via phase-noise-aware log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) at the base station (BS) side in millimeter-wave (mmWave) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems with higher-orde quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM).
When using high-order modulation schemes in mmWave wide-band wireless communication systems, although the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is small owing to the operation at the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region, the phase noise from the local oscillator severely degrades the demodulation performance.
To address this issue,we analytically formulate the approximate probability density function (PDF) of the received signals including phase noise, and calculate a reliable LLRs input to the subsequent channel decoder, assuming the use of a forward error correction technique, textit{e.g.}, low-density parity-check code.
Computer simulations demonstrate the validity of our proposed method in terms of bit error rate (BER) performance in coded MIMO systems.
