A Transmission Efficiency Improvement Scheme for Software Acoustic MODEMs of Differential OFDM

(in English) This paper discusses differential orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DOFDM) software modems for underwater acoustic communications (UWAC) in severe doubly selective channel environment and their information transmission efficiency improvement scheme. DOFDM is a good solution for doubly selective channels, because OFDM is good for frequency selectivity and differential encoding/differential detection are good for time selectivity. However, in order to realize a DOFDM modem, it is necessary to insert synchronization words (SW) between frames. As a result, information transmission efficiency decreases. This paper evaluates subcarrier phase offset (SPO) scheme that prevents a decrease in the information transmission efficiency of a DOFDM modem by giving a phase rotation equivalent to the Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence for each subcarrier. This paper discusses the hardware and software configuration of the DOFDM software modem. Next, the effectiveness of the DOFDM software modem is clarified by computer simulation and experimental results.
