Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Bats use echolocation, in which they emit sounds and listen to their echoes, to achieve a high level of spatial perception in flight. In particular, bats that emit CF-FM type ultrasonic waves change the frequency of their pulses so that the frequency of the echoes to which they pay attention remains constant within the sensitive range of their auditory system (Doppler shift compensation behavior). Therefore, the identification of the target of the compensation behavior, which is a constant echo frequency, allow us to investigate the change in attention of bats. However, even in laboratory experiments using telemetry microphones, it is not possible to measure all the echoes reaching the bat in flight from the surrounding walls, and the echo information has not been analyzed well yet. In this study, we numerically reproduced the echoes including the Doppler effect received by bats during flight experiments by implementing a moving sound source in the two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD). From this, we estimated the target of compensation behavior where the echo is constant, and analyzed the change in attention of bats.
