[Tutorial Lecture] Fundamentals of Finite Element Method for Electromagnetic Simulation and Canonical Problem Examples
Takuichi Hirano (Tokyo City Univ.) AP2021-18
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) With the development of computers and analysis methods, electromagnetic field simulators have become an indispensable tool for the design of antennas and high-frequency circuits. Since the simulator outputs the result even if the setting is incorrect, the user is required to have the ability to verify the result. In order to use the simulator correctly, it is necessary to understand the minimum analysis principle. This paper describes the basic knowledge for performing finite element method electromagnetic field simulation. In addition, since knowing the analysis algorithm is useful for creating an appropriate analysis model and verifying the result, the formulation of the electromagnetic field problem analysis by the finite element method will be explained. In order to verify the results, it is necessary to analyze and verify canonical problems for which the correct results are known. Some analysis examples of canonical problems such as dipole antennas and scattering problems caused by conductor spheres will be presented.
