Distributed strain measurement using stimulated Brillouin scattering pumped by orthogonal two-wavelength pulses
Kenichiro Tsuji, Tomoyuki Uehara (NDA) OFT2021-10
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the distributed strain measurement with a conventional BOTDA using stimulated Brillouin scattering, a polarization scrambler has been used to reduce polarization dependence of the Brillouin gain. In this report, we propose and investigate a simple BOTDA method using orthogonal two-wavelength pump pulses, which are passively produced by a birefringent optical fiber to reduce the polarization dependence of the Brillouin gain. The experimental results show that the fluctuation of the Brillouin gain along the sensing fiber is well suppressed by the orthogonal two-wavelength pulses. The successful distributed strain measurement using the proposed method is demonstrated.
