Detection of fixed and moving obstacles in front and rear of a Bicycle in an urban bicycle lane using mm-wave FMCW-MIMO radar

(in English) The construction of a bicycle lane has been promoted in conjunction with the Bicycle Utilization Promotion Plan and the Olympic year. However, guardrails, road signs, street lights, parked cars, and a dangerous bicycle are major obstacles to bicycle riding. In this study, we installed 77 GHz band FMCW-MIMO radar in front and rear a bicycle for the purpose of confirming the environment of riding bicycle, and detected fixed and moving obstacles in a bicycle lane in the city center. The results of the experiments in front and rear of bicycle showed that the bicycles could detect several objects in the cycling environment before overtaking a parked car, when overtaking a parked car, and after overtaking a parked car. As described above, we could recognize the riding environment by detecting fixed and moving obstacles that interfere with bicycle riding.
