DCSOM with Ensemble Learning Classifier

(in English) Deep Convolutional Self-Organizing Map (DCSOM) which extracts visual features from images by using self-organizing maps was proposed by Saleh et al last year. DCSOM is robust to noise and experimental results using noisy handwritten digits shows that the performance of DCSOM outperforms state-of-the-art methods. However, due to DCSOM uses support vector machine, which is a binary classifier, for classification after feature extraction, its performance degrades as the number of classes increases, and it requires strict parameter tuning to avoid overlearning. In this research, we propose to use a hierarchical neural network, which is a multiclass classifier, like fully connected layers in Convolutional Neural Network. Furthermore, we try to avoid overfitting without adjusting parameters by applying ensemble learning.
