[Invited Lecture] A Study on mmWave Multi-hop Analog Relay Single-User MIMO

(in English) Millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication is a key technology to realize ultra-high data-rate and ultra-low latency wireless communications. It is expected to be applied to various use cases such as mmWave cellular networks and vehicular networks. Compared with conventional communication systems in micro-wave band such as 4G/LTE, the mmWave communication employs higher frequency band which allows a wider bandwidth and is suitable for large capacity communications. Due to the strong diffraction loss and the path loss in mmWave band, it is difficult or even impossible to achieve high channel capacity for user equipments (UEs) located in Non-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) environments. To solve the problem, mmWave massive relay MIMO has been proposed, which enables the NLOS mmWave communications by using a massive number of analog relay stations (RSs). The transmission signals are relayed at massive RSs to form an artificial MIMO channel even in NLOS environments. In this paper, we extend the massive relay MIMO system to include multi-hop relays. Simulation experiments are conducted, and the numerical results show that the proposed system achieves extremely high data-rate.
