Technique of Optimizing the Phase Shift Accuracy in Vector-Sum Phase Shifter Followed by Frequency Doubler

(in English) In recent years, with the development of APAA (Active Phased Array Antenna) in the millimeter wave band, the need for phase control in millimeter wave band is increasing, and it is important to improve the phase shift accuracy. One of the circuits that realizes the phase control in the millimeter wave band employs a configuration in which the phase is controlled by a phase shifter in the low frequency band and then the frequency is multiplied by a doubler. In this configuration, if a vector-sum phase shifter with a variable range of 360 degrees is used, variable range after multiplying the frequency is 720 degrees. In this paper, we propose a technique of optimizing the phase control accuracy by using this redundancy. The proposed technique utilizes the model of the phase control characteristic of phase shifter which is derived from the measurement results of a few specific phase settings. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the measurement of the fabricated IC.
