[Invited Lecture] Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer via Electric and Magnetic Hybrid Fields Achieving Reception of Reflected Waves

(in English) We demonstrated a 27.12MHz dynamic wireless power transfer using a model car in the Movie Contest of Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer held in 2020 by the IEICE Technical Committee on Wireless Power Transfer. In this paper, we report the circuit details that is not shown in the video. We adopted a novel power transfer method using both electric and magnetic fields with a single power receiving circuit. By using the principle of directional coupler, the proposed method realizes electric and magnetic hybrid fields coupling and receiving power from reflected wave, which were difficult with conventional methods. In addition, by resonating the receiving electrode plates and the receiving coil, it works as a resonant power receiving circuit without adding any reactive parts to the directional coupling circuit. On the other hand, surface wave propagation was used for the power transmitting electrified road. Power distribution is achieved on the whole of the model road with using a single high-frequency power supply. Since there are no needs of suppressing reflected wave in the proposed method, a matching termination resistor is not required at the end of the road. Therefore, the power loss is reduced.
