The Relation Between Auditory Frequency Resolutions and Noise Intensity in Stochastic Resonance States
Kota Ohno, Susumu Kuroyanagi (NIT) MBE2020-45
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In general, noise is known to have a negative effect on signals. However, in certain systems, a phenomenon called stochastic resonance can occur, and noise can have a positive effect on the signal to improve its performance. The occurrence of stochastic resonance has been reported in many nonlinear systems with thresholds, such as sensory organs. Similarly, stochastic resonance should occur in human hearing, resulting in improving auditory function. In hearing, stochastic resonance is thought to occur in hair cells that have a threshold system, of which outer hair cells contribute greatly to the auditory frequency resolution. In this study, we focused on the auditory frequency resolution and confirmed the effect of stochastic resonance.
