Mitigating inter-core cross-talks in a closely-packed optical waveguide array is of great importance for increasing the transmission capacity of space-division multiplexing devices such as multi-core optical fibers. Recently, it was theoretically proposed that an optical waveguide array with self-similar propagation constants significantly reduces the cross-talks while inducing strongly localized propagation modes. This time, we demonstrate the localized light propagation in a self-similar one-dimensional waveguide array using silicon-wire waveguides. |
