Development of high-sensitivity camera for space using consumer parts
Fumiya Kuramoto, Shinichi Kimura (TUS) SANE2020-48
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The highly sensitive images in space has very important implications in various aspects such as scientific observations and navigation-guided measurements. So far, cooled CCD has been widely used to suppress the dark current of image sensors for high-sensitivity image acquisition in space, but due to the difficulty of exhausting heat in space, the cooling system becomes large and complicated. Therefore, we considered using an uncooled high-sensitivity CMOS image sensor for space camera, which is a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) widely used on the ground in recent years. In this paper, we report the performance evaluation of a wide dynamic range CMOS image sensor for consumer use and the study of an ultra-compact, ultra-low power consumption wide dynamic range image acquisition processing system for space use.
