Digitally controlled boundary current mode buck converter

(in English) When the control method to maintain the boundary current mode is applied to the buck converter, the efficiency is expected to be improved switching loss due to zero-current switching. In addition, since the inductor current is controlled, the transfer function is a first-order system, which is expected to improve the controllability. However, capturing the change of the inductor current in digital control requires a very fast AD converter for the switching frequency, which leads to problems such as cost increase. Therefore, in this study, the on-time in the switching cycle is determined by PID control. The off-time is also determined using the fact that twice the load current is the peak value of the inductor current. The control method to maintain this boundary current mode is investigated. In this paper, the proposed method is applied to a buck converter, and the static characteristics, efficiency, controllability and future issues are discussed.
