Many kinds of applications are currently deployed on Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) clouds. OpenStack is a set of open-source software to provide IaaS environments and it currently has many production use cases. In the IaaS clouds, the scale of the IaaS infrastructure is gradually expanding according to the number of virtual machines, and, therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the IaaS performance and design the infrastructure while considering of the large-scale workload. However, it is almost impossible to build the large-scale testing environment (e.g. > 1000 servers) from the cost perspective. To evaluate the OpenStack scalability, OpenStack community has been developing the method to simulate the large-scale workload. In this presentation, I introduce the performance evaluation method that I have performed to design the infrastructure of large-scale production IaaS clouds. |
