The Rate-Delay Function for Binary i.i.d. Sources

(in English) The low delay communication is important, while reducing the coding rate is also needed owing to a cost. So we have to investigate the relation between the delay and the coding rate. According to similarity between the distortion and delay, we employ the rate-distortion theory to analyze the relation between both of them. Specifically, we use information-spectrum methods in a way similar to rate-distortion theory with special achievability for coding rate and delay after defining delay as the difference of codeword lengths between the input and output. Currently, a theorem for the rate-delay function has been proved, which describes how much the coding rate can be reduced within a given delay criterion [5]. However, if we try to keep the delay below a constant under the definition of achievable in [5], we need a communication that allows almost no delay when the input is very long. In this paper, we redefine achievability and show a general theorem similar to [5]. Then, we derive the rate-delay function for binary i.i.d. sources.
