Preference for visual objects changes depending on where the objects are viewed from. This effect is thought to be derived from the familiarity of the objects. Previous studies focused mainly on the effect of horizontal angle. In this study, we also examined the effect of vertical angle. The results showed the preference for all the objects tested (i.e., a cup, a pen, and a pair of shoes) changed with both horizontal vertical angles, which highly correlated with familiarity. The results suggest that the effect of viewing angle on preference for visual objects is due to familiarity of viewing an object (i.e., typicality of view point). |
