Supervised disentangled representation learning

VAE is a DNN model for unsupervised representation learning. VAE learns to extract features from the input data as latent variables. The latent variables learned by unsupervised learning are optimized so as to minimize the input-output difference and discrepancy from the standard normal distribution, and therefore it is hard to interpret the meaning of individual latent variables intuitively. In this report, we propose a supervised disentangle learning method by connecting multiple classifiers to a VAE’s decoder. Through the experiments on 3d shapes dataset, we demonstrate the image parameters, such as, object shape/color, background color, and observation angles, of the input image can now be learned in the local regions of latent variables. |
