Undersea optical wireless power transmission method using light beam -- Features, technologies, and issues --
Tomoyuki Miyamoto (Tokyo Tech)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Optical wireless power transmission (OWPT), which supplies electric power remotely by using light beam, has recently begun to attract attention as a method of wireless power transmission technologies. The advantages are long-distance power supply, small module, and no EMI in comparison with previously utilized methods such as electromagnetic induction.
In the sea and underwater, only blue-green light can be transmitted as the electromagnetic wave. Therefore, OWPT may be the only method that can remotely supply power undersea or underwater. The OWPT in the air is also in the basic research stage, but in this presentation, I will explain its feasibility, problems, solutions and improvement methods for undersea and underwater use.
