Development and evaluation of efficient vulnerability scanning system for IoT networks

(in English) In recent years, a security incident called DRDoS attack, which is a kind of DoS attack using reflections and amplifications, have been frequently observed. In DRDoS attacks, the third-party devices including IoT devices are used as “reflectors.” To deal with this attack, the administrators of IoT devices and of IoT networks must periodically investigate the
“reflection” capability of owned devices. Since the deployment speed of IoT devices will be increased rapidly in near future, the effective scan tool must be employed to fulfil the responsibility of administrators. In this paper, we develop a scan tool focusing on parallel processing for large scale IoT networks. We also create an evaluation environment that measures the scanning time of large scale IoT networks having various parameters; we use the Docker software easily to setup large scale IoT networks. Finally, we develop an estimating equation of the scanning time through evaluating the proposed scan tool within the evaluation environment.
