Applying the Multiple Intelligences Theory to English Language Teaching in Japan
Takeshi Nakamoto, Makoto Nakashima (Oita Univ.) TL2020-5
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) According to the multiple intelligences (MI) theory, human mind is a blend of eight intelligences, and each intelligence is developed independently from the others. Among the eight, balance of their strengths differs from one person to the next. Therefore it is effective to design contents of the curriculum in accordance with each learner’s mind characteristics. In Japan, after-school tutoring is a support system for uniform school education, and its individualized educational environment is suitable for applying the MI theory. This paper focuses on English language instruction at the tutoring institutions in Japan, and proposes a teaching plan on the basis of MI theory.
