New non-destructive inspection method of FRPM pipeline utilizing temporal and spatial synthesis of microwave guided-modes

(in English) We propose a new non-destructive inspection method for underground fiberglass-reinforced plastic mortar (FRPM) pipelines. Our method utilizes temporal and spatial synthesis of microwave guided-modes propagating along a FRPM pipe-wall. In this study, we derived a microwave propagation equation that enables us to calculate a time-domain response of the spread microwave guided-mode signals propagating along the pipe-wall. Using this propagation equation, we can evaluate the effects of a foreign object of various sizes and types on microwave propagation. Additionally, we analysed the effects of dielectric materials with a cylindrical structure on microwave beamforming. By utilizing the periodicity in the microwave propagation characteristics along the FRPM pipe-wall, the pipeline can be inspected more efficiently.
