It is difficult to observe the behavior of large-scale line structures used in offshore systems directly, such as risers, and mooring lines. Their large and repeated deformation can cause system or structural failure. Therefore, it is helpful for system integrity to monitor there deformation continuously by shape sensing. In this study, shape sensing system for the large-scale line structure was implemented with BOTDR and thicker Multi-core fiber. The system was validated experimentally and shapes including straight line and circle with diameter is 1.0 m or 1.9 m were identified well. More accurate measurement of strains is expected to lead to more accurate shape sensing. |
