A backlit image often includes both of bright regions and extremely dark regions. The visibility of the dark regions in such image tends to be low. General methods for image enhancement can't sufficiently enhance the quality of such image. In this report, we propose a backlit image enhancement method which improves the visibility of dark regions. In the proposed method, gamma correction and histogram equalization are used to make brightness adjusted image and contrast enhanced image, respectively. Then, the alpha blending of the brightness adjusted image and contrast enhanced image is obtained. After that, an output image is obtained by fusion of the original image and the resultant image of alpha blending to avoid causing artifact in bright regions. The weight for fusion is calculated by using binarization method and guided filter. Through experiments, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. |
