Lightning, whether natural or artificial, is reported to induce the growth of shiitake mushroom. The mechanism thereof, however, is not elucidated. Therefore, we report herein the causality with the emphasis of chemical reactions induced by lightning. Lightening ionizes dinitrogen molecules, dioxygen molecules and other gaseous molecules in air, thereby generating plasma. In the plasma, chemical reactions proceed to produce nitrogen dioxide and other nitrogen oxides, which converts into a nitrogen fertilizer, thereby inducing the growth of the shiitake mushroom. Since Shiitake mushroom differs from a plant, presumably the efficacy of the nitrogen fertilizer has been overlooked. |
