Wi-SUN field area network (FAN) is a specification of wireless multi-hop networks oriented toward like smart metering systems. For next-generation specifications, the low-power operation for limited-function devices (LFDs) is under development to accommodate battery-powered devices like gas and water meters into a FAN. In this report, the low-power media access control (MAC) protocol for LFDs in next-generation Wi-SUN FAN is studied. One method is achieved by limiting the listening schedule and adopting synchronized communications. In addition to this method, we propose a method that adopts the synchronous coordinated sampled listening (CSL) protocol for downlink communications. Theoretical analysis is developed to show the effectiveness of the method that adopts the CSL protocol under specific conditions assumed in use cases of LFDs. |
