A Study on Estimation of Source Locations with Virtual Array using UAVs

(in English) In recent years, the operation of wireless communication systems has increased due to the spread of wireless LANs, smart phones, and the introduction of 5G, which has led to problems such as pressure on frequency resources and interference between systems.However, the wireless communication system is not always in use at all times and places, and it is necessary to operate the system efficiently to make secondary use of unused frequencies.In order to identify the use of the system, it is necessary to estimate the location of the wave source of the system, but this is difficult to estimate with conventional techniques due to the influence of multipaths and propagation losses caused by buildings, etc.Therefore, a method to estimate the location of signal wave sources from the primary system with UAVs is being investigated in order to make secondary use of bandwidths not used by the primary system, such as mobile phones and wireless LANs.In this paper, we employ a virtual array using UAVs that can move freely ad evaluate the accuracy of estimating the location of the wave source by simulating it with ray-tracing. We evaluate the characteristics of UAVs with height and the estimation accuracy when a broadband receiving antenna is assumed.
